Cafes in Ireland that give a discount when you use your own cup

Cafes in Ireland that give a discount when you use your own cup.

To clarify, this is not a sponsored post. I received a free KeepCup to take part in Reuse Month and as I think it is a brilliant initiative, I decided to write this post to lend my support.

October is Reuse Month and the Regional Waste Management Offices and Community Reuse Network Ireland are encouraging us to ditch the disposable cups in favour of reusable cups.

Disposable cups are usually not recyclable. To make these cups waterproof, the card is fused with polyethylene, a material that cannot be separated out again in a standard recycling mill.

One million disposable cups end up in landfill every minute. EVERY MINUTE! In Ireland, we are throwing away over 200 million takeaway cups each year! Insomnia Cafes alone use 15 million cups a year. Globally, we discard 500 billion disposable cups to landfill or incineration every year.

We’ve really taken to reusing shopping bags and bags for life since the introduction of the tax on plastic bags, so why don’t we do the same with reusable cups? On the KeepCup website, there are some interesting facts and a comparison of disposable cups versus reusable cups.

Cafes can cut the use of disposable cups by offering a discount to customers with reusable cups and many coffee shops around Ireland already do this.

The following is a list of cafes in Ireland that give a discount when you use your own cup.

However, this list is not complete and I need your to help to make the list even better. If you know of anywhere in Ireland that gives a discount when you use a reusable cup please let me know so I can add a list.

The discounts offered at the places below range from 10 cents to 50 cents with one place offering a one Euro discount.

I haven’t added the discount amount as this may change but if any of the cafes want to contact me to confirm an actual discount amount I will add it beside the café’s name.

I’ve been to my local Costa cafe as well as ones in Dublin with my reusable cup. They offer no discount or extra loyalty points for using a reusable cup. When I queried staff they informed me they no nothing of such a store policy

[…] With this in mind, KeepCup recently sent me one of their cups to help me reduce the amount of take away drinks cups I use. It’s really rather pretty and certainly meets with my aims in the long term, and not just for ‘Reuse October/National ReUse Month’. The great news is that quite a number of coffee shops will give you a discount if you bring your own drinks container and my friend Melanie May has a very helpful list which you can find on her blog.
